The Youth Symphony orchestra of Saint-Petersburg invites conductors to apply for masterclass under the guidance of renowned conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre, Honoured Artist of Russia – Alexander Polyanichko.

Repertoire:

opera “Rigoletto” by Giuseppe Verdi

Masterclass includes public rehearsals with piano, with soloists and Chorus of Mariinsky Theatre, rehearsals with the Youth Symphony orchestra of Saint-Petersburg.

Recent opera conducting masterclasses lead by Maestro A.Polyanichko with Youth Symphony orchestra were Opera conducting masterclass “La Boheme” by Puccini and ”Carmen” by Bizet feat. Chorus of the Mariinsky Theatre.

Alexander Polyanichko is the House Conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra (since 1989).

One of the recent masterclasses led by Maestro Polyanichko was Opera conducting masterclass in Saint-Petersburg (repertoire: “La Boheme” by Puccini)

As a guest conductor, Polyanichko has appeared at many renowned opera houses including:

Bolshoi Theatre, Royal Opera House, La Scala, Deutsche Oper, San Francisco Opera, Australian Opera, English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Danish Royal Opera, Stuttgart Oper,

Colorado Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Norwegian Royal Opera, and Swedish Royal Opera.

From 2005, Polyanichko gave orchestral master-classes for the Swedish National Orchestra Academy, Symphony Orchestra of the Royal College of Music, London, Chamber Orchestra of the Cambridge University, and Britten-Pears Youth Orchestra.

The number of active participants is limited to 7. All participants will be chosen by Maestro Polyanichko.

4 active participants chosen by Maestro Polyanichko will conduct the performance in the Final public concert at the Yaani Kirik Concert Hall (54A Dekabristov St.). The concert program will be divided among the participants by Maestro Polyanichko.

This course is open to conductors at all levels of proficiency, from beginners to professionals.

There is no age limit for participation. The course will be held in English.

Participation Fee:

active participant: 1750€

Each active participant fee includes:

  • rehearsals with 2 pianos – 60 min;
  • rehearsals with singers of Mariinsky Theatre and piano – 60 min;
  • podium-time with the St. Petersburg Youth Symphony orchestra – 120 min incl. time with Chorus
  • each participant will receive a certificate of participation  signed by Maestro A.Polyanichko;

4 best participants will perform in the Final Concert – semi-staging version of “Rigoletto”, which will be recorded and sent them via the Internet;

We also can advise participants our partner hotel in the centre of St.Petersburg with special price 25-40€ per night.

Passive participants are also invited to watch all sessions and to visit Final Concert.

Participation fee for passive participant is 300€ (+accommodation 25-40€ per night)

Passive participants also will receive the certificates.

The score edition is Peters (Leipzig). With recitatifs (not dialogues)

Masterclass includes public lessons with piano, rehearsals with the Youth Symphony orchestra of Saint-Petersburg and the Final Concert at the Small Hall of the  Saint-Petersburg Academic Philharmonia.

Maestro  Vladimir Altschuler is a renowned conductor of the St.Petersburg Academic Philharmonia, chief-conductor and artistic director of Saint Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra and Honoured Artist of Russia.  He is the  associate professor of the State St.Petersburg Conservatory and the professor of the St.Petersburg University of Culture and Art. But the collaboration with the St.Petersburg Symphony Orchestra is the most important part of the Altschuler’s professional activity.

Since 1994 Altschuler holds the post of conductor of the St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra. With this orchestra he has performed all the symphonies by Bruckner, Händel’s oratorio “Saul”, “Orpheus” by Monteverdi (an authentic version) for the first time in Russia. A subject of the conductor’s special interest is the music of the XX century. Thanks to Maestro Altschuler, St.Petersburg heard for the first time the «Child of our Time» by Tippet and «Bernauerin», the musical drama by Orff. He conducted the premières of the music by G.Ustvolskaya, Y. Falik, V. Basner and other St.Petersburg, Russian and foreign composers. The conductor actively tours in Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Finland, Norway, Turkey, Croatia, Macedonia, the Baltic countries and the Republic of Korea.

Participants will receive the cuts of choral parts via the Internet before the masterclass.
