Migran Agadzhanyan

Born in 1992 to a family of musicians, Migran Agadzhanyan started his performing career on the stage of the Rostov State Musical Theatre. He studied at the music school named after Ippolitov-Ivanov (with T.D. Nikolaenko) and took his first vocal training by the prominent Belarus tenor Vladimir Eknadiosov. In addition, he studied with Renata Scotto and Giuseppe Sabatini at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Opera Studio. Currently, the young tenor is a student in both the Piano & Keyboard Department (with Vladimir Mischouk) and the Symphony and Opera Conducting Department (with Vladimir Altschuler) at the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory. Migran Agadzhanyan is the winner of many international piano and vocal contests such as A. Scriabin International Piano Competition in Paris (1st Prize, 2003), Talents of the 21st Century Contest in Kiev (2nd Prize), Piano Contest in Pesaro (1st Prize), One nation, one culture Pan-Armenian festival in Erevan (1st Prize), Romance Awing Sounds… All-Russian Vocal Competition in St Petersburg (Grand Prix, 2010), Flaviano Labo International Competition for Young Opera Singers in Piacenza (finalist, 2010), Grand-Prix of St Petersburg International Vocalists’ Competition (finalist and the Audience Choice Award, 2010), and the VIII Elena Obraztsova`s International Competition Of Young Opera Singers (1st prize, 2011), Placido Domingo`s Operalia Competition in Covent Garden (semifinalist, 2015). He was also granted the 2007 Young Talents Federal Award and the 2007 scholarship by the Vladimir Spivakov International Charity Foundation. Migran Agadzhanyan has made his operatic debut at the stage of the Mariinsky Theatre St Petersburg and has performed with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev. Since the season 2015/2016 is a member of the Domingo-Colburn-Stein Yong Artist Program at LA Opera. He is the founder and principal conductor of the Saint Petersburg Youth Symphony Orchestra and has also conducted the Rostov Academic Symphony Orchestra, Saint Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra, Rostov State Musical Theatre Orchestra, and State Hermitage Symphony Orchestra among others. Migran Agadzhanyan has worked with Boris Gruzin, Alexander Polyanichko, Fabio Mastrangelo, Pavel Smelkov, Paolo Arrivabeni, Valery Gergiev, Plácido Domingo and James Conlon. Apart from his career as vocalist and conductor, Migran Agadzhanyan has stepped in as stage director and has been composing his own works, including the Armenian Ballade for Piano and Orchestra. He has sung parts as, inter alia, Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca, Alfredo Germont in Traviata, Don Jose in Carmen, Rodolfo in La Boheme, Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly, Macduff in Macbeth, Ismaele in Nabucco, Lensky in Eugene Onegin and Cassio in Otello.
